Code of conduct

We want to ensure that everyone who attends the Deep-Sea Biology Symposium feels welcome, safe, and comfortable.  All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers are required to agree with the code of conduct. We also seek to ensure that everyone feels they are able to report incidences of discrimination, harassment or abuse of any kind. Anyone experiencing or witnessing violations of the code, contact

Everyone can face discrimination or harassment and all reported incidents will be treated with respect and managed appropriately.

We ask all organizers and participants in this event to read and abide by the following code of conduct, so that everyone is able to enjoy, learn, and share their research in a safe and welcoming environment.

Everyone is encouraged to demonstrate exemplary behavior to promote the welfare of all participants and reduce the likelihood of any allegations of misconduct being made.  This includes:

  • Treating everyone equally, with respect and dignity at all times
  • Communicating openly and thoughtfully with others and being considerate of the multitude of views and opinions that are different than your own
  • Maintaining a safe and appropriate physical and emotional distance in all interactions
  • Maintaining a professional and friendly but non-personal, non-sexual dialogue at all times with all participants
  • Not discriminating or commenting based on gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin, or culture
  • Not filming presentations

Professional conduct is required for all interactions, even in jest, at any conference venue, talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media.
